Diffusers 101: Instructions, Care, and More Tips!

Looking to add a little fresh fragrance magic to your space (or your ride)? Whether you’re new to diffusers or just want to get the most out of yours, you’re in the right place. In this guide, we’ll break down the two most popular types—reed diffusers and car diffusers—with simple instructions, care tips, and everything you need to know to enjoy these long lasting flameless scents. So, let's dive right in!

What Is a Diffuser?

A diffuser is a flame-free, low-maintenance way to fill your space with fragrance. Unlike candles, diffusers release scent continuously and subtly—making them perfect for homes, offices, and vehicles. No plugs, no fuss, just pure scent. The two types of diffusers we offer here are Car Diffusers, and Reed Diffusers. Those are the ones we're going to break down today.

Reed Diffusers: A Home Fragrance Favorite

How Reed Diffusers Work

Reed diffusers consist of a vessel filled with fragrance oil and natural rattan reeds. The reeds absorb the oil and slowly release the scent into the air. It’s a steady, long-lasting solution for scenting small to medium spaces.

How to Use a Reed Diffuser

  1. Uncap the bottle and remove the plastic stopper if there is one.

  2. Insert the reeds into the bottle.

  3. Let them absorb the oil for about an hour, then flip them to kick-start the scent throw.

  4. Place the diffuser on a flat, stable surface, away from direct sunlight or heat.

Reed Diffuser Tips & Care

  • Flip the reeds every few weeks to refresh the scent. But be careful not to touch them with your bare hands. Use gloves or a paper towel.

  • Use fewer reeds for a lighter scent or more for stronger fragrance. We ship all of our diffusers with 8. 6-10 is the recommended amount.

  • Keep away from pets and kids—these oils aren’t meant to be touched or tasted, and can be harmful if ingested.

  • Dust the bottle and reeds gently every so often for a cleaner look.

  • Place on a tray or coaster to avoid oil staining surfaces.

How Long Do Reed Diffusers Last?

Depending on the size of the bottle and number of reeds, reed diffusers can last anywhere from 1 to 3 months. Our 4 oz reed diffusers typically last about 3 months with minimal effort.

Car Diffusers: Lasting Fragrance on the Go

How Car Diffusers Work

Car diffusers are compact, refillable fragrance vessels designed to clip onto your car’s air vent or hang from your rearview mirror. As air flows through your car, it helps diffuse the scent into the cabin.

How to Use a Car Diffuser

For vent clip styles:

  1. Unscrew the cap or remove the cover.

  2. Add a few drops of your chosen diffuser oil to the pad or bottle.

  3. Replace the cover and clip it to your vent.

  4. Turn on your A/C or heat to help circulate the fragrance.

For hanging styles (like wood-cap bottle diffusers):

  1. Remove the plastic stopper.

  2. Screw the wooden cap back on.

  3. Tip the bottle gently for 1–2 seconds to saturate the cap.

  4. Hang it from your rearview mirror using the attached cord.

Car Diffuser Tips & Care

  • Re-tip the hanging diffuser bottle every few days to refresh the scent.

  • Store upright when not in use to prevent leaks.

  • Wipe off excess oil from wood or plastic parts to avoid staining.

  • Choose subtle scents for shared rides (you don’t want to overwhelm your passengers).

How Long Do Car Diffusers Last?

Car diffusers can typically last 4 to 6 weeks, depending on the oil blend, climate, and use.

General Diffuser Safety & Best Practices

  • Always follow the instructions that come with your diffuser.

  • Keep diffusers out of direct sunlight to prevent the oil from evaporating too quickly.

  • Use quality fragrance oils or essential oil blends made for diffusers to avoid damaging materials or producing off-putting scents.

  • Avoid placing diffusers near fans, vents, or windows—they can dry out the oil faster or blow the scent away before it settles.
